A Day o’ Eats!

Several WLS bloggers are posing what they had to eat today (or yesterday). I figured that I might as well jump on the bandwagon! Here’s what I had today:

Fage Full-Fat Yogurt with Strawberry

10:00ish: I've never had the full-fat Fage before. It was truly amazing.

Macadamia Nuts

3:30ish: Macadamia nuts -- I had a few more than this.

Decaf

4:45ish: I realized I hadn't had much to eat today, but didn't want to eat. Drank some decaf with 8oz milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and coconut oil instead of solid food.

Sausage Medley

7:30ish: Made myself eat; we call this "Sausage Medley." Reduced fat sausage, bell pepper, onion, and shredded potatoes topped with cheese and an egg. The bowl holds a bit less than a cup.

This is NOT a typical day of eating for me. It’s super skimpy on the veggies. I don’t really eat yogurt anymore, but I’m on a pretty strong antibiotic right now and trying to stave off a yeast infection. I eat potatoes once every few weeks. My food choices are generally more solid and less mushy.

I also posted a visual food log in December, and another for two days last June. The way I eat has evolved so much over time and I’m grateful to have these visual reminders of how far I’ve come–even in the four and a half months since I last did this.

Waiting for the Train

We were supposed to go for a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad today. We got on the train. Then, for the first time since 1990 (or so the people at the train depot said), the engine broke down in such a way that we would not actually be able to go on the train ride.

Sweet.

But the Boy got a picture of me waiting for the train, so it was all worth it, right?

Yeah, the look on my face is weird.

Now I See!

Now I See

Now I understand why the lady at Costco told me that the microfiber cloths I was looking at would be a great purchase so I would have them “when the baby comes.”

Holy moly. The roll goes all the way around, too.

I thought I was closer than this. Maybe I *do* need to lose 40 more pounds, after all.

(The Boy tells me that I made a poor choice of attire on picture day, as this isn’t my most flattering shirt. He coulda told me that when I said, “I’m going to wear the gray sweater with the pink cami when we have our pictures taken”!! (No, I don’t really blame him. He’s just so much fun to tease!))

March 2009 vs September 2010

In March of 2009, the Boy took my picture after I got my hair braided at the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Today, I asked him to take a picture of me at a similar angle. I figured it would be good for me to look at, since I don’t feel like I’m losing weight at all. (You can click to see a bigger version of the picture.)

September 2010 vs March 2009

On the left: September 25, 2010 (209.2lbs). On the right: March 14, 2009 (in the 280s)

I have no words.

October 2009 vs. July 2010

In one corner, we have October 2009. Around 271 pounds.

In the other, July 2010. Around 224 pounds.

What a difference 47 pounds makes!

(Dear Boy:
You need to trim your beard. I love you.

Two Days of Food – Friday, June 4 & Saturday, June 5

I had a friend who wanted me to take pictures of everything I ate in two consecutive days. Here is what I ate!

4:15 - Super Dark Chocolate (Half Serving)

Pei Wei

6:40 - Pei Wei Kids' Honey Seared (No Rice, Before and After)

Remnants of Pancake and Sausage

Naan Pizza

5:50 - Naan Pizza (Canadian Bacon, Pepperoni, Mozzarella)

PB Cup Blizzard

9:00 - Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard (Ate a Third)

Observations:

  • I had a multivitamin drink on Saturday, too!
  • UTZ Cheese Balls are not something I eat frequently.
  • I do have a food scale at work. If I want to partake of some of the community food that less than stellar (such as Cheese Balls), I make sure to weigh it so I don’t eat too much.
  • I need to incorporate more veggies into my diet! This is actually pretty representative of what I eat (except as noted above!). Saturday and Sunday aren’t very structured at all, as you can see.
  • Sometimes I think I eat way too much.
  • How do you all typically eat?

I’m easing back into blogging. Still working on the podcast (I promise!).

Fill Comparison

Tonight, I asked the Boy to take a picture of my post-fill puncture mark, a day and a half after my most recent fill. Compare it to the picture he took two days after my first fill! Having a properly secured port really does make a lot of difference!

After fill on May 4, 2010

A blurry image of my tummy after my most recent fill. See the red poke mark on the bottom?

Bruise after my first fill

This is what my port site looked like two days after my first fill. Ouch!

Port Revision Surgery Tomorrow

I told my mom that I’m apprehensive about being put under general anesthesia. She pointed out that going under entirely is preferable to not having anesthesia at all. TouchĂ©.

The Boy generously took a picture of my belly for a pre-revision comparison if I ever want one. I’m hoping that my surgeon won’t have to make another cut. Rather, I’d appreciate it if he can open my largest incision again, since my belleh is getting pretty scarred.

So, I suppose this is both a “before” shot and an “after” shot. I’m almost exactly seven months out from having my band placed. I added explanations for the visible scars I can account for (they’re color coded!), but there are some weird splotches on my abdomen I can’t account for. And no, I have no idea why that pimple scarred so much.

As always, don’t click if you don’t want to see morbidly obese girl belly or my new B cup bra (where are my boobies going???): Continue reading »

Oh Goodness!

Dear Readers,

The Boy is overly dramatic. Though I realize he wants you to think him a saintly sort of man, I can assure you that he only occasionally falls into that category. I love him dearly and freely admit that he is sweet and spoils me rotten, but I refuse to lie about his heavenly status. And did I mention that he’s overly dramatic?

Sincerely,
The Girl

Now that I’ve dispensed with that, I shall continue on! The Boy did report the truth–I am still struggling to get all protein shakes in each day. I know that my body needs them to encourage healing but there are days when I can barely stomach them! I’m thankful that I’ve moved on to the mushy food stage of my post-op diet because I’m down to two shakes a day instead of three. I’ve also tried to concentrate on protein rich foods rather than meals filled with carbs, which makes me feel a little better about the missing shakes (especially those in week one).

I also missed two spirometer treatments on Wednesday, the last day I was required to do them. I have excuses: it was my first day back at work; my coworkers don’t know that I had surgery; I forgot to do it when I got home…. All are true, but that’s no excuse. In addition to the morning breath test, I should have done one the minute I got home, one in the evening, and then my final one before bed. I only did the one before bed.

While we’re talking about things I’m not doing right, I really need to find a multivitamin to take. The practice requires their patients to take a calcium supplement and a multi every day, and I have done neither. Prior to surgery, I was taking the Viactive multi because it’s fairly basic and didn’t upset my stomach like most of the others I’ve tried. Unfortunately, Viactive products are strictly forbidden by my doctor because of their sugar content. Fortunately, Mom found chocolate calcium chews (like Viactive without the sugar), but no multivitamin alternative.

I’m not sure what to do. Liquid supplements you can buy at places like GNC and Hi-Health are costly and I don’t really want to go the children’s vitamin route, though I know some bandsters do. Target has some chewable adult vitamins that I think I’ll check out tonight if I can get the Boy to take me to the store (though I haven’t taken any Lortab in over a week, I am still loathe to drive).

I’m going to link to the last bit of this post, as I’m going to describe a problem with an inflamed incision and post somewhat icky pictures of it.
