I’ve had little time to write lately and it’s driving me batty. The podcast isn’t going as…smoothly as I wished. I’ve been so frustrated.
How are you all?

Not that I can sit with my knee against my chest for hours!
The Boy and I are starting a weight loss surgery podcast. We were really pushing to have it ready to release today but, alas, technology was working against us! Microphones didn’t want to record properly, my computer crashed and attempted to lose what we’d done, and then…well it’s just been a mess.
Episode 1 of Surgery to Scale will be ready soon, however. In the meantime, please let the Boy and me know if you are thinking about WLS of any type, have had WLS of any type, or are a professional who deals with WLS in some way (surgeon, nutritionist, mental health professional) and you want to be interviewed for an upcoming podcast! You can simply use the contact form to let us know.
I’m super excited about this new venture and hope that you all will be, too! There aren’t many WLS shows out there and, as far as I can tell, none that are currently being updated. So. WOO!
Starting Weight: 298.2 pounds
Last Week’s Weight: 230.6 pounds
Today’s Weight: 228.0 pounds
2.6 pounds down this week.
A year ago tomorrow, I started my pre-op diet. Today, 51 weigh-ins later, I weigh 70.2 pounds less.
How great is that? Too great for words, really :)
Well, the bad news is that my orthotics are being sent back to the lab.
The good news is that they’ll be adding a piece to them to help make them more rigid, which the doc says will mean no more blisters!
The bad news is that I have no insoles for my running shoes because I was shortsighted and threw the ones the manufacturer provides away.
The good news is that I’m buying a new pair of running shoes tomorrow, since the guys at Runner’s Den told me my everyday shoes are…shot.
The bad news is that I don’t really have the money for new running shoes.
The good news is that I am blessed with a great Mom, awesome Boy, helpful Cat, and wonderful friends both on- and offline.
The bad news is that my back and neck hurt from the lack of orthotic love.
The good news is that I’m going to have a brand new appreciation for my orthotics when I get them back.
Do you have any news?

Last Week’s Weight: 232.0 pounds
Today’s Weight: 230.6 pounds
Well, another 1.4 pounds is gone. What bums me out is that I weighed 229.8 on Tuesday! I guess ice cream last night was a counter productive choice–but it was good!
But. That means I have one week to lose 2.4 pounds. *cue dramatic, anticipatory music*
I haven’t forgotten about the blog. I have some awesome things brewing, I just haven’t had time to do them yet :)
I’m going to the doctor tomorrow to try to get my feet figured out so I can actually start on my running program. If it’s not one thing, it’s…a billion. I’ll definitely let you know what he says tomorrow. You’ll also get my weigh in, naturally :)
If we did something like this every morning, maybe we’d all feel a little better!
The Boy and I listen to podcasts as we drive hither and thither in the Valley of the Sun. This weekend we listened to one of Radiolab‘s shows, in which they discussed humans’ limits: physical, mental, and the ability to understand science. I highly recommend the first 12 minutes, where they introduce the segment on physical limits. Fortunately, you can listen to the episode online.
The show’s hosts talk to Julie Moss, who competed in the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon in 1982. Julie trained little, if at all, for the event. Oh, and just so we’re all on the same page, an Ironman is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run.
She was shocked when, during the biking portion of the race, she passed the leading competitor.
Yeah. She was in first.
And then disaster struck when she was within sight of the finish line. You can watch it on YouTube:
She turns to rubber. She almost literally turns into rubber. Down she goes.
And then?
And then?
She gets back up and tries to run again. She falls. Again. At some point in there, she lost control of her bowels. The lady she passed during the biking portion won the race.
But Julie Moss didn’t give up. She crawled across the finish line. She crawled. And she ended up finishing in second place.
Think about this when you’re having a rough time finishing something, be it a workout routine or a book you’re reading.
“There is no limit,” she said during the podcast.
Short of death, I believe her.
I was so brave yesterday. So so very brave.
I went shopping for jeans.
I went to Torrid, found the bootcut jeans, and grabbed a pair of 20s and a pair of 18s. I was feeling optimistic and tried the 18s on first.
They were ever so slightly big. After talking to the sales staff, I determined that I needed….
16s!!!!
Additionally, I bought a pair of 16s at Costco (!!!) today. They fit. I cried a little.
I’ve never worn size 16 pants before. But what gets me is that five years ago (when I was around the same weight I am now), 18s were a little too snug.
Vanity sizing? Severe change in body shape? I don’t know. And I don’t care.
I wore the jeans I bought at Torrid furniture shopping yesterday, where I found the couch pictured below. Look at it! I made a beeline for it when I spotted it. Isn’t it crazy? It’s like it desperately wanted to be a grand, old-fashioned bed when it grew up, but it never got its final growth spurt.

Here's a picture of me, wearing my size 16 (!!!) jeans, on the most frightening couch ever. See my look of concern?
The Boy assures me that this was one of the better pictures of me. So. Yeah.
