If you follow me on Twitter, you know that my logo is a beautiful butterfly the Boy created for me soon after I was banded. Here it is for those of you who’ve never seen it!
Butterflies mean a lot to me. They represent metamorphosis, change, new beginnings, rebirth. The ovals in this particular butterfly represent my band bringing me to restriction and my shrinking body. And did you notice its poochy belly?!
I’ve been planning on getting this tattooed on my foot for a while, but I’m not sure when to have it done. I wanted to do it soon after surgery, but decided against it. Then I decided that it would be my reward for completing a half marathon. Now I’m beginning to doubt that running 13.1 miles in 10 months is a reasonable goal.
What do you guys think? On my one year “bandaversary”? For getting halfway to goal? Reaching my goal? Running the half-marathon because you think it’s doable? Give me your ideas!
I don’t think u need to have a time or a reason to get a tattoo other then you want it.
my question would be, why the foot? and are u ready for that pain. I mean no shoe for a few days, its will be bloody and scabby and sore as hell! So tell me again, why your foot?
I don’t think I’m looking for a reason as much as I am trying to establish a reward for something meaningful. I don’t really have any kind of reward system set up and this is the only thing I really want that holds any emotional pull for me. I want it to be commemorative of something, I just don’t know what yet.
I know foot tattoos are painful. I’d probably get a pedicure right before the tattoo and plan on wearing sandals for a while :)
I want it on my foot because I want it to be somewhere I can easily see. I don’t want any arm or hand tattoos for both personal and professional reasons. My abdomen’s out because it’s already scarred and it’s going to continue to undergo changes for a while to come. My upper thighs are also changing. I have a tattoo on my right calf already. I could get this one on my left calf, but it would feel too “matchy matchy” for my taste, like I was going for symmetry and failed. That leaves my ankles and feet. I’m not completely set on the foot idea–I could go for ankle art, too. I haven’t decided how large I want it yet, though two inches top to bottom would probably be pushing it. I decided to let size and exact placement be something my artist and I determine together.
yeah you wont want to go too small, you will lose alot of detail, altho most of the details are in the rings on the wings (im a poet and didn’t even know it!)
I have 13 or 14 tattoos scattered about my body, and in june I will have 3-4 more, maybe 5 more, depends on how much taco bell I bring my tattoo artist! haha! That is why I say – no need for a reason to get a tattoo! But i can understand your point. Altho I think a tattoo is a pretty hefty reward and by that I mean… usually when we reward people. friends, children ourselves etc, and its a repeat thing, we always as humans try to one up the last reward. So this year if u reward yourself with a tattoo, and next year comes around your thought process is going to be, ok well this year, whats better then a tattoo.
At least that is my thought process. I would start with something smaller and work my way towards the bigger prize in the end.
I’m not too worried about going bigger and bigger with rewards. It’s more like….I’ve wanted this tattoo for a long time. Five or six years. (Not this specific tattoo, but a butterfly tattoo on my foot.) I’ve just been looking for the right reason to get it, if that makes any sense.
Hey this is “aka” Gastricgirl…
I think you need to do it on your anniversary…I have a butterfly and it means so much to me and I know you will just love yours…It didn’t hurt at all…I can’t wait to see it…

Thank you, ma’am :)
I vote for surgiversary. I didnt know that the circles represented your band. That is pretty cool.
That butterfly is steeped in symbolism, I tell ya ;)
